Nothing shows up

You pressed F6 and nothing happened. Go top to bottom — the first two catch almost everyone.

Did the Backseat frame appear when the game started? That’s the frame that slides in and fades a few seconds after launch. If yes, Backseat is in the game and you can skip to Are you online?. If no, keep going.

Is the game running as administrator? Backseat can’t work with a game that runs as administrator. Close it and launch it normally — from Steam, the Start menu, wherever, without right-click → Run as administrator. If a launcher does it for you, that game is out for now.

Is it a supported game? Backseat checks every game for anti-cheat when it starts, and stays out if it finds any. Supported games has the details.

Is the service running? Right-click the tray icon. If it says the service is stopped, click Restart overlay service. If it keeps dying, send us the logs.

Two GPUs? On a laptop with both an integrated and a dedicated GPU, Backseat can end up on one while the game runs on the other, and then it can’t draw. In your GPU control panel, set the game and Backseat.exe to the dedicated GPU.

Are you online? Backseat’s interface loads from the web. No connection, nothing to show.

Ask isn’t answering

The text box opens, so Backseat is in your game. What’s missing is the connection to our server.

Check the tray. Right-click the Backseat icon and look at the token line. Your install picks up a tester token on its own the first time it goes online. If it says there’s no token yet, click Restart overlay service and try again.

Check your connection. Answers come from our server. Offline, nothing comes back.

Did you see an “end of test” screen? Then the preview has closed on our side. That’s on purpose, not a fault — Backseat will tell you when it’s open again.

Is the answer just wrong? That’s a different thing, and a useful one. Backseat only knows what’s on your screen right now, not your save file or where you were an hour ago. If it made something up, or missed text that was clearly on screen, tell us — that’s what the test is for.
