Input modes
You won’t normally need this. Asking with F6 handles it for you: the keyboard goes to the text box, and a click on empty screen still reaches the game, so you can aim at a highlighted word or swing a sword.
For testing, though, there’s a debug panel on F8 with a switch at the top centre:
| Mode | The game gets | Backseat gets |
|---|---|---|
| Passthrough | Everything | Nothing — it just watches |
| Hybrid (default) | Everything outside Backseat’s buttons | Clicks on its own buttons |
| Full control | Nothing | Everything, and a free cursor |
Switching is instant. F8 closes the panel in any mode, and everything goes straight back to the game.
The one rule that matters
The game can never be left without its input. If Backseat crashes, the game gets everything back on its own, cursor included. If you ever see the opposite — a game that stopped reacting after Backseat died — that’s the bug we most want to hear about. Send feedback.
What Backseat can’t take
Controller input, and keyboard input in some older games that read it a different way. Those keep reaching the game even in full control.
